CORNELIUS, N.C. (WBTV) – A grand jury on Tuesday indicted a woman accused of stabbing a man to death last week in Mecklenburg County, according to court records.
On Tuesday, April 21, a grand jury indicted 23-year-old MaKayla Hooks on a charge of second-degree murder. Hooks is accused of killing 24-year-old Demetri Niji McGruder on Wednesday, April 15, at an apartment in Cornelius.
What happened
Around 12:40 a.m. on Wednesday, April 15, police found McGruder, who had been stabbed, inside an apartment on Ruffner Drive in Cornelius. McGruder died approximately 20 minutes later, according to an affidavit.
An affidavit said that Hooks and McGruder had gotten into an argument in the kitchen. Hooks claimed she was in the kitchen cutting a steak, put the knife down, and then heard a thump in the bathroom…
