WEDDINGTON, N.C. — A cryptic resignation letter from a newly elected Weddington town council member is raising questions among residents who say they are left searching for answers.
Clayton Jones, a District 3 representative on the Weddington Town Council, announced his resignation April 17, less than five months after taking office. In the letter, Jones wrote that he came into the role with “eyes wide open” and quickly noticed what he described as significant issues he could not ignore. He did not elaborate on the nature of those concerns.
