CORNELIUS, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A boutique, English-style hotel is proposed for an area of north Mecklenburg County that’s quickly becoming less and less rural.
On Monday the Cornelius Board of Commissioners were presented the latest project from prominent local developer Jake Palillo of South Creek Construction. He’s behind the popular Bailey’s Glen age-restricted community, but also the hot-button Lagoona Bay project that was shot down in Huntersville two-and-a-half-years ago.
The latest pitch is for the “Cornelius Inn,” a 45 room hotel with 10 rental cottages and spa along N.C. 73 at Mayes Road. The property is outside the Cornelius town limits, just east of the proposed Lagoona Bay site.
The 6.3-acre property is zoned Rural Preservation, which promotes farms, single-family residences, natural areas, open space and recreation. Palillo is seeking a conditional zoning…
