CMS students, employees impacted by Canvas data breach

MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Charlotte-Mecklenburg students are among millions nationwide affected by a recent cybersecurity attack on a major online learning management system (LMS).

The district was notified of a security breach involving Instructure, a third-party vendor of Canvas, that occurred over the weekend. Canvas, a system used by students and teachers to access assignments and track grades. This comes over a year after PowerSchool’s software was hacked, compromising personal information for millions nationwide.

The breach occurred within Instructure’s system, and officials say it did not involve or compromise CMS’s network or internal systems. CMS is among the millions impacted by the breach across the state…
