Speed limit changes in Matthews aim to improve safety

MATTHEWS, N.C. — Matthews is lowering speed limits on three busy roads as the town battles growth.

Speed limits were recently lowered from 45 mph to 35 mph on McKee Road, Pleasant Plains Road and Weddington Road. Officer Tim Aycock of the Matthews Police Department said many drivers who commute from the suburbs to Charlotte use these roads as cut-throughs to get to their destination faster.

“We’re a town of 35,000 residents, but during the day, we have a lot more people than that here for cars coming back and forth from morning rush hour and evening rush hour,” Aycock said…
