Editor’s Note: Despite the rain over the past six days, the region and much of Virginia remain in draught conditions. As of Monday night, Madison, Rappahannock and parts of Greene and Orange counties remain in severe draught conditions, while southeastern Greene and southern Orange have extreme draught conditions.
Here in Virginia, we are experiencing a “dry spring”. As of May 3, 2026, Central Virginia is officially under a “Drought Warning” advisory issued by the Virgina Department of Environmental Quality. The current situation is significant, where conditions have gotten worse due to the lack of rainfall and higher temperatures. Most of central Virginia is experiencing severe drought. Meteorologists note that April 2026 was the sixth driest April on record for Richmond since 1870.
