The Western girls track and field team turned in another winning year, taking the Jefferson District championship. Several athletes had outstanding performances at the Class-3 state championships. Senior Maddie Hill took second place in the long jump at 18’-1”, and fifth in the triple jump at 36’-1.75”. Junior Julia Hill placed sixth in both the 100-meter dash (12.90) and the 200 at 25.84.
The most dramatic performance of the year came from senior Emerson Ritter in the Dogwood Track Classic on the track at Lannigan Field/UVA. She blazed to a 4:52 in the 1600 meter, the fastest time in Western Albemarle history and breaking a 22-year-old school record…
