CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – Virginia’s new two-year state budget is now law, and it includes tens of millions of dollars aimed at tackling the state’s housing crisis — with new protections for renters and funding to help families stay in their homes.
Governor Abigail Spanberger signed off on the 2026-2028 biennium budget after the General Assembly accepted all of her proposed amendments.
The budget sets aside $60 million for a new mixed-income housing pilot program and support for the state’s Housing Trust Fund. An additional $14 million will go toward expanding homelessness services, and nearly $12 million is earmarked to help families stay in their homes when financial hardship strikes…
