Central Virginia drought worsening for cattle farmers, extension agent warns

LOUISA COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) – Central Virginia is entering its third month of extreme drought, and cattle farmers say recent storms have done little to ease conditions as blazing temperatures offset any benefit from rainfall.

Blake Hopkins feeds 600 cattle each day at his family’s Louisa County farm. Grass is no longer growing, forcing farmers to import hay rather than rely on homegrown feed.
