ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) – Doctors, police officers, nonprofit leaders, and community members gathered Thursday, July 16, at Piedmont Virginia Community College for the third annual Gun Violence Summit, an event aimed at finding collaborative solutions to gun violence in the area.
Sylvia Bennett-Stone, national director of Voices of Black Mothers United, spoke at the summit about the death of her daughter.
“My daughter Christa Joy Bennett was shot and killed at a gas station in 2004. The bullet went through her body, stopped in the body of her girlfriend and two girls died from one bullet,” Bennett-Stone said…
