CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – The higher concentration of smoky hazy skies – from Canadian wildfires – causing unhealthy air quality will start to improve this weekend, with a shift in the wind and some storms. This weekend will feature a cold front to bring some scattered showers and storms.
Weekend Forecast
Saturday is a First Alert Weather Day for the threat of some severe storms. A level 2 out of 5, slight risk, for severe storms across our area. Before any storms, still hot and humid with highs in the low to mid 90s. During Saturday afternoon and evening, mainly 2 PM – 9 PM, there will be scattered storms developing. The highest severe threat is damaging straight line wind gusts 60-70 mph, followed by some spotty hail. While very low, but not zero, an isolated tornado is possible. Have a way to receive warnings, like the 29 First Alert Weather App. Remember “When Thunder Roars, Move Indoors”. Some locally heavy rain in spots with storms. Not everyone, however, will receive rain from storms on Saturday.
Sunday the cold front will slide farther to our south, but a few showers or storms, still possible. Overall rain amounts this weekend, generally under a half inch. Highs Sunday in the upper 80s to around 90.
