ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) – A trial date remains undetermined for a former Hollymead Elementary School employee facing 11 felony child sex crime charges.
Michael Swiney appeared in Albemarle Circuit Court Wednesday, September 23, as attorneys work to determine how the case will move to trial. Swiney is accused of sexually abusing four girls under 13.
Attorneys addressed whether Swiney’s 11 charges should be combined into a single trial. Swiney faces seven counts of aggravated sexual battery, one count of attempted aggravated sexual battery and three counts of indecent liberties. He was represented by defense attorney Christopher Leibig.
Chief Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney W. Lawton Tufts told Albemarle Circuit Court Judge Cheryl Higgins on Wednesday that trying the charges separately could lead to as many as five to seven trials…
