Syracuse quarterback Malachi Nelson is slated to start for the Orange against Virginia Saturday, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported Friday. The move comes after projected starter Amari Odom was downgraded to doubtful and Steve Angeli was ruled out Friday evening.
Odom — who threw for 335 yards and totaled six touchdowns against UConn last Saturday — entered the week as the expected starter. Yet Odom was listed as questionable for the UVA game in the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Thursday injury report.
