WEYERS CAVE — The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident that put Blue Ridge Community College on lockdown Tuesday afternoon.
The Sheriff’s Office received a call from school security at 12:37 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, indicating that an unknown student had received a call instructing them to leave the cafeteria “because it was about to be set on fire,” per a press release.
The unknown student left the cafeteria but the information had been overheard by other students, who notified campus security 45 minutes to an hour after the initial phone call, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Blue Ridge Community College security initiated a lockdown of several BRCC buildings and notified the 911 center, the release said. Augusta County Deputies and BRCC security officers searched the campus and did not locate anything suspicious, per the Sheriff’s Office.
The release said that the lockdown was lifted at 1:12 p.m. Tuesday. The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office has identified the student that allegedly received the call and this incident is an ongoing investigation.
