Elmira’s Sarah Coon homers for second straight day with Virginia softball

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – Elmira grad Sarah Coon is red hot on the softball diamond.

Elmira grad Sarah Coon hit a home run for the 2nd straight day at the NCAA Division I level. The University of Virginia junior blasted a late home run in a 6-1 loss to #23 South Carolina, on Saturday.

Coon has hit 2 home runs to go with 3 RBIs, and 4 runs, on 3 hits, over the past 4 games at the South Carolina Tournament. The Elmira grad’s success has helped the Cavaliers to a 3-1 start, to open the season. Virginia plays the final game of the tournament tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. against the hosting Gamecocks. The game will be available to watch on SEC Network+, on the Watch ESPN App.

Last season, Coon started all 46 games in which she played in. She hit .248 with six home runs and 17 RBI in 2023. Sarah was also a 2022 All-ACC Freshman Team selection for the Cavs two years ago.
