Increased infrastructure revenue, lower taxes on the mind of Grottoes council candidates

GROTTOES – Three candidates are seeking three open seats on the Grottoes Town Council this November.  To help residents get to know the candidates, the Grottoes Ruritan Club hosted a town hall for the three and the two mayoral candidates on Sept. 12.

After the mayoral candidates finished answering questions , the three town council candidates introduced themselves. Their full introductions are included, with light editing, at the bottom of this article.

The council candidates were only asked one other question – what is their vision for the Grottoes community?

Maite Taylor said several issues were a major concern, but listed them in no particular order. Infrastructure, both roads and public facilities, will need repairs and preparation for potential future expansion.

Michael Kohl is currently on town council and said there were two major issues it is working through. The first is the water supply system – council recently upgraded the wastewater treatment plant.

“That is wildly expensive,” Kohl said. “We want to make sure that we can do this infrastructure. The only way to do that is to increase our revenue.”
