City Manager’s Office Outlines Efforts To Improve Biker and Pedestrian Safety

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The City Manager’s Office has outlined what it’s doing now, and plans to do in the future, about pedestrian and biker safety as the subject comes up again after last week’s fatal pedestrian accident on Elliot Avenue. Deputy City Manager for Operations James Freas (frees) told City Council this week they continue seeking funding for the sidewalk priority list as they continue operating the nationally recognized Safe Routes to School Program. Freas says the city is now involved in the Move Safely Blue Ridge program which regionally identifies potential safety solutions. Still to come, a study of citywide speed limits in regard to designated design speeds for those streets.
