First Alert Weather Day Continues Tonight into Early Wednesday AM – Additional Excessive Rain and Flooding

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – First Alert Weather Day continues tonight into early Wednesday morning. Excessive rain has prompted numerous Flash Flood Warnings and Flood Warnings across our viewing area. Remember to Never Cross Flooded Roadways – “Turn Around Don’t Drown.” Some roads may be washed out or closed. Small creeks and streams are out of there banks in the warned areas. If flood waters threaten your location, move to higher ground. Rain amounts of 2 to 4 inches with even higher amounts have been realized, especially in the Blue Ridge Mountains and areas impacted by repeat storms. Soaking and excessive rain continues tonight.

The weather pattern will remain unsettled the rest of this week, but for later Wednesday and the late week, more in the way of scattered showers and storms. Wednesday an isolated severe storm threat, mainly for damaging wind gust and or some spotty hail. Locally heavy rain may occur with any storm, and this may trigger additional flooding. Temperatures will warm back up for the late week. A cold front later Friday into Saturday will still bring some scattered showers and storms. Currently, a drier stretch of days expected by Sunday into early next week.
