A week into activation, Charlottesville says school zone cameras doing their job

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – Outside Summit Elementary, Drivers’s speeds are displayed under a 15 mile per hour school zone sign. One speeds by at 30 miles per house, the car behind it, 28.

“We’ve been seeing excessive speeding during school hours and we’re trying to mitigate those risks and we’re trying to keep the kids safe,” said Charlottesville Public Safety Information Officer Kyle Ervin. “So, with having these cameras installed, that’s going to help solve that problem.”

If the two yellow lights on the speed limit sign were flashing, these drivers would fined, as part of a new initiative by Charlottesville using cameras to keep Charlottesville school communities safe…
