WAYNESBORO, Va. (WHSV) – As summer is around the corner, more animals will be out and about. The Wildlife Center of Virginia said if you see a deer fawn by itself, there is a good chance it is not orphaned.
Connor Gillespie, Director of Outreach said when the mother is out looking for food, she will leave the fawn somewhere safe as to not attract predators. He said many people see the fawn alone, and may think it was abandoned.
He said this will lead to people will bringing the fawn to the Wildlife Center. It is something Gillespie and others refer to as ‘fawn-napping’, because the animal was fine before it was taken to the center. However, there are some signs people can look for to see if the fawn has been orphaned…
