The Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail renovation project is facing further delays.
Although staff had hoped to present a revised plan to the jail’s board on Thursday, June 12, they say they’ll need more time to adjust the scope of the project and bring it back within budget. That comes after five construction bids submitted on May 30 came in significantly over estimated costs.
The controversial renovation and expansion were originally estimated at $49 million in 2023, but five different companies submitted bids ranging from $53.6 million to $76.5 million, according to bid documents posted on the jail’s website.
