Charlottesville: Second shooting on Downtown Mall this week injures 30-year-old man

A 30-year-old man was shot on the Downtown Mall in Charlottesville early this morning, and one man is in custody in the incident. One additional suspect is currently being sought by Charlottesville Police.

Lorenzo McAllister, 34, has been arrested and charged with:

  • Reckless handling of a firearm
  • Possession of a concealed firearm
  • Discharging a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school

According to police, the injured man, who has not been identified, was shot in the leg at 1:40 a.m. near Fitzroy on the Downtown Mall. Officers responded and rendered emergency aid and applied a tourniquet until medics arrived. The victim, who has not been identified, was transported to UVA Medical Center and is expected to recover, according to police.
