Severe thunderstorms bring damaging winds and hail to Maryland, Virginia, and DC from 2 PM to 7 PM. Thursday

The greater Baltimore-Washington D.C. metropolitan area, along with much of Virginia, is facing a serious risk of severe thunderstorms today between 2 PM and 7 PM. These storms could bring damaging winds, large hail, and even isolated tornadoes, as a strong cold front moves through the region.

The National Weather Service (NWS) is urging residents to prepare for intense weather that could lead to significant disruptions.

Severe Weather Risks and Threats

According to the NWS Sterling, Virginia office, the region is under an Enhanced (Level 3 out of 5) risk for severe weather. This means that widespread storms with the potential for significant damage are likely. Areas such as Frederick, Hagerstown, Charlottesville, and Washington D.C. are at high risk. Along with damaging winds and large hail, there’s also a possibility of localized flooding and isolated tornadoes.
