ALBEMARLE COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — On June 20, the Wildlife Center admitted a Red Fox that had been seen in Albemarle County for nearly two months with a piece of plastic trash wrapped around his neck. The object, which resembled a drain cover, restricted the fox’s movement and made it difficult for him to eat and drink. As sightings increased and concern from the community grew, multiple attempts were made to safely capture the fox.
The rescue effort began in early May, when a concerned citizen named Donna spotted the fox and left a voicemail with the Center. A few days later, another community member, Wendy, confirmed a second sighting. Then, on May 12, a local resident named Haley noticed what she thought was a mangy fox kit in her yard when an adult fox—the entrapped male—appeared. Haley set a humane trap in hopes of capturing the adult, but he vanished for several days.
