CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Major Camille Stewart has officially stepped into her new role as Deputy Chief of Police with the Albemarle County Police Department, bringing nearly three decades of experience from Northern Virginia to Central Virginia. Just three weeks into the job, Stewart says she’s already felt welcomed. “The department, the community, everyone that I’ve encountered has been so welcoming. It’s really, really nice,” she said. Originally from Botetourt and previously based in Fairfax County, Stewart said her desire to return to the mountains made this opportunity the right fit.
Stewart will be overseeing both the Professional Standards division and the Investigations Bureau. “Everything that the community wants from us, I want that from our officers too,” she said, highlighting the importance of internal audits, accountability, and maintaining public trust. Her background in Fairfax provided her with a wide range of experiences, including working on an incident management team and responding to major emergencies across jurisdictions.
