Newsweek ranks nine UVA Health Medical and Children’s among best specialties

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Newsweek has named nine specialties, seven best in the state, at UVa Health University Medical Center and Children’s in their 2025 list of America’s Best Specialized Hospitals and America’s Best Children’s Hospitals. Three specialties at UVA Health’s Children’s are named among best in the nation, gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery ranked 28th, endocrinology 29th, and cardiology and cardiac surgery 32nd. All three specialties were ranked best in the state.

At University Medical Center, orthopedics ranked 32nd, neurology 41st, cancer treatment 45th, cardiac 45th, pulmonary 73rd, and endocrinology 109th. Orthopedics, neurology, cancer, and cardiac were all ranked best in Virginia. The criteria used to assemble the rankings include hospital quality metrics, surveys of specialists in each field and patient-experience surveys.
