UVa landed another commitment for their 2026 class on Sunday night, when 3-star DB Jayden Covil announced his commitment to the Hoos. Covil, who plays at Oscar Smith High School, is UVa’s third in-state commit in the 2026 class, joining Rustburg’s Alex Dunn and Springfield native Josiah Teasley. Covil is also UVa’s first and only 757-area commit in the class, and their first Oscar Smith commit since 2014 (Andrew Brown). Covil ranks 22nd in the state in Rivals’ rankings, and has a 5.5 rating.
Covil chose Virginia after taking an official visit to Charlottesville last month, as the Hoos fought off the competition to keep Covil in the Commonwealth. UVa’s newest commit also considered Wake Forest and UConn among others, and picked up an offer from Ole Miss recently; he also held offers from Pitt, Penn State, Virginia Tech and others earlier in the recruiting process.
Covil, listed at 5-foot-9, 150 pounds, projects as a cornerback at the next level. His older brother, Sherrod, is a defensive back at Virginia Tech, but began his career at Clemson, and committed to the Tigers back when now UVa coach Tony Elliott was still the offensive coordinator there…
