Harrisonburg man arrested for attempted murder following knife attack

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) – The Harrisonburg Police Department has arrested the suspect in a knife attack that critically injured a woman on the afternoon of July 23. HPD said it received a call reporting the incident around 3:43 p.m. Wednesday, in the 1000 block of Chicago Avenue.

Officers and major crimes detectives began canvassing the area and looking for the suspect, while the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Emergency Communications Center issued a shelter-in-place order at 4:15 p.m. Officers also obtained surveillance footage which was shared across multiple platforms.

HPD said one of its K9 officers, Riggs, was able to successfully track the suspect’s scent, leading detectives to a potential location. HPD credits the work of officers and of major crimes detectives, alongside tips from the community, to identify the suspect as 44-year-old Hunter Booth of Harrisonburg.

The Harrisonburg SWAT Team executed a search warrant at Booth’s residence on Chicago Avenue, and he was taken into custody with out incident…
