Waynesboro man charged after allegedly striking pedestrian with vehicle

WAYNESBORO, Va. (WHSV) – A Waynesboro man was arrested on multiple charges after an incident last Saturday night that reportedly involved a verbal altercation and the man striking a pedestrian with his car, according to police.

Officers with the Waynesboro Police Department first responded to the report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle around 7:37 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of 13th Street and Market Avenue in Waynesboro, according to the department’s post on Facebook. When officers arrived, they found a pedestrian who had been allegedly struck and sustained injuries that were consistent with being hit by a vehicle.

Witnesses at the scene of the crash reported seeing 34-year-old Derek Bailey of Waynesboro circle the are a multiple times before the incident, “antagonizing residents and engaging in verbal altercations from his vehicle,” WPD said.
