Old Rio Mills Road blasts clear way for main construction

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) – Passerby’s on U.S. 29 near Old Rio Mills Road Monday afternoon, July 28, might have heard a small boom, as part of a planned explosion was part of an ongoing project by Rivanna Water and Sewer.

“Our goal is that you are not able to feel or hear the blasting process within the immediate vicinity,” Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority Director of Engineering Jennifer Whittaker said. “We really want to minimize the amount of disturbance to the surface.”

Whittaker said blasting mats placed over the explosion site helped make sure wildlife and people were not too startled by the sound or shake of the explosion…
