If you thought July seemed especially wet, you’re right: Although summer storms are quite regional, nearly half of July days in Crozet had at least some rainfall, and once tallied, the total rainfall is predicted to be quite a bit higher than normal. Many of those storms were accompanied by flood watches, and a couple by flood warnings, depending on where you live.
It’s important to know the difference. A flood watch simply means that present conditions could cause flooding in your area, and you should be watchful for further developments.
A flood warning is much more serious, meaning that floods are happening or about to happen. You’ll need to plan to avoid flood-prone areas and even prepare to possibly evacuate.
