JMRL Summer Reading Challenge keeps thousands reading over the summer

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – The Jefferson-Madison Regional Library wrapped up its 2025 Summer Reading Challenge this weekend with a celebration at the Central Library.

Megan Smead, children’s services manager at JMRL, says participation doubled for this year’s program, with over 7,000 participants logging over three million minutes of summertime reading.

“It’s a wonderful community program,” Smead said. “It really brings people together and brings people into the library who maybe aren’t super regular users — there’s another extra bit of motivation to come in and do something fun and connect with friends or meet people that you haven’t met before.”…
