Lack of overnight shelter leaves few options for Charlottesville’s unhoused

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – Charlottesville’s overnight shelters for the unhoused are limited, with many options only available during the winter months.

Shayla Washington, executive director of the Blue Ridge Coalition for the Homeless, says there are around 215 people on the by-name list experiencing homelessness in the Charlottesville area.

The Salvation Army of Charlottesville provides the area’s only year-round overnight shelter for the unhoused. The shelter has 58 beds available for those who meet the shelter’s requirements…
