Police warn of rental scam

WAYNESBORO – Waynesboro police said the department was recently made aware of a possible rental scam involving an online housing listing.

In this case, an individual searching for a place to rent was asked to provide personal financial information through unofficial links and repeated requests for credit details. The individual became suspicious and reported the incident. Fortunately, no money was lost.

Police said the public should be cautious when searching for apartments or homes on social media platforms. Always verify listings through legitimate real estate agencies or trusted rental websites. Never provide personal or financial information (such as credit scores, Social Security numbers or bank details) to unverified individuals online…
