Firefighters’ stair climb remembers the victims of 9/11 with each step

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – Albemarle County Fire Rescue and the Charlottesville Fire Department hosted their annual stair climb on Saturday at the John Paul Jones Arena, inviting first responders and community members to remember those impacted by 9/11.

“Taking a day to remember what they did, and remember why you’re here, why we’re here, and why we do what we do is always important,” said Cameron Walker, a firefighter EMT with ACFR.

Community members came together equipped with tennis shoes, boots, and firefighting gear to climb 110 floors of stairs in honor of the 343 firefighters who lost their lives responding to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001…
