UVA graduate selected in NASA’s 2025 Class of Astronaut Candidates

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WSET) — The National Aeronautics and Space Administration introduced its new candidates on Monday, and a University of Virginia graduate made the cut.

38-year-old Ben Bailey was one of the 10 candidates chosen from over 8,000 applicants across the United States. Bailey was born and raised in Charlottesville, Virginia, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from UVA.

Bailey is a U.S. Naval Test Pilot School graduate with more than 2,000 flight hours in more than 30 different rotary and fixed-wing aircraft. He’s also working on completing a master’s degree in systems engineering at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California…
