September 22, 2025: New City Arts Initiative announces members of steering committee for potential new arts council

Today’s edition is sponsored by the Ragged Mountain Running and Walking Shop

According to an official count that is possibly flawed, this is the 925th edition of Charlottesville Community Engagement. It is possible to get a semblance of the events of 1,100 years ago through portals of information such as Wikipedia. From this distance, much of what’s on record are the transition of power as one ruler takes over from another such as Nicholas I dying in his second reign as the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople and head of the Eastern Orthodox Church, succeeded by Stephen II.

Do these references provide any clue for what to think about 2025? They certainly provide no insight into today’s stories. I’m Sean Tubbs, and I could be mistaken.

In today’s installment:
  • City Council holds first reading on use of state money for review of flood plans

  • There’s a group seeking to create a new Arts Council for the Charlottesville area and members of the steering committee have been announced

  • A locally-owned pair of retirement communities is now owned by an investment firm

  • The U.S. Census provides a snapshot of the number of centenarians in the country, one of the smallest demographics

  • Charlottesville is seeking firms to conduct a variety of tasks including replacing traffic signals

At publication time, there are 4,496 people on this list. If you send this email on to other people, perhaps we’ll get to 5,000 by tomorrow? No pressure. Also, no marketing budget…
