One of my favorite aspects of living in Virginia is the beauty of the mountains. Whether you’ve traveled east from Kentucky to coastal Virginia or driven through the Old Dominion going north, chances are you’ve noticed the bumpy landscape of the ranges. And, as a lover of all things vintage, I especially enjoy my antiquing journey when it involves this stunning backdrop.
Such is the case with the Fishersville Antiques Expo. It takes place in both the spring and fall, which are peak times to enjoy the views from the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
What Is the Fishersville Antiques Expo?
The Expo—as locals call it—began in 1986 with 75 dealers and now attracts over 300 vendors and thousands of shoppers each event. It’s also the largest indoor-outdoor market in the Mid-Atlantic. My first introduction was over 20 years ago, when I was searching for items to resell in my first antique booth, and then I became a vendor myself.
I recall my then-two-year-old daughter playing while my husband and I greeted shoppers and subsequently headed home with a nearly empty trailer from a successful weekend of sales. The people were (and still are) kind, and the merchandise is eclectic. Today, you’ll find everything from 90s collectibles to fine, 18th-century antiques. There truly is something for everyone.
When Is the Expo?
The market typically happens on the second Friday and Saturday in May and October on the grounds of the Augusta Expo. It’s located right off Exit 91 on I-64, and due to its easy access to I-81, the event attracts browsers and vendors from up and down the East Coast. For a $10 admission fee, patrons can gain early entry on Friday, or pay $5 to enter on Saturday…
