A Birthday Party for the Blue Ridge Respite Program

Here to Stay, Wintergreen’s Blue Ridge Respite Program (formerly the Nelson Enrichment Club), celebrated its one-year anniversary Sept. 3. It’s been a successful year: from its start with seven members and more than 20 volunteers, the program has expanded to 11 members and more than 35 volunteers. Rockfish Presbyterian Church hosts and supports the program.

The Blue Ridge Respite Program provides friendship, activity and companionship for those living with mild to moderate dementia or Parkinson’s disease. All members are treated as equals—and everyone has fun.

The program also serves another purpose: it gives family caregivers a few hours off from their duties. At caregivers’ request, it has expanded from two days to three days each week…
