The astronomer and inventor Galileo Galilei spent the last ten years of his life under house arrest for challenging the state-mandated view that Earth is the center of the universe. That authoritarian view did not win the day and on October 6, 1995, intellectual descendants of Galileo discovered a planet orbiting a star fifty light-years away in the constellation of Pegasus. Since then, over 6,000 worlds have been spotted by people who put in the work. Charlottesville Community Engagement is inspired by this sense of progress.
