HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) – An Elkton woman was charged following a pursuit involving Virginia State Police on Interstate 81 that culminated in a crash in downtown Harrisonburg and the woman’s arrest, according to Virginia State Police.
The woman driving a Hyundai sedan illegally used the crossover at the 262.7-mile marker on I-81 in Rockingham County to travel southbound, according to VSP. A VSP vehicle followed the sedan and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver did not yield, so police started a pursuit on I-81 southbound.
The suspect got off the interstate at the 245-mile marker and traveled into Harrisonburg, where additional VSP units responded. During the pursuit, the driver disregarded multiple red lights and turned onto Mason Street, VSP said. There, the sedan approached East Market Street at about 10 miles per hour when the suspect tried to pass a patrol vehicle on the left side of the roadway, hitting the car and running off the road.
