Council moves forward with plan to transform office space into a low-barrier shelter

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – Charlottesville is moving forward with plans to transform a vacant office building off Route 29 into a low-barrier homeless shelter, something the City has chased after for years.

In a unanimous 5-0 vote on Monday night, City Council committed to set aside $6.2 million to purchase 2000 Holiday Drive, stating that the property will be a critical part of addressing gaps in homelessness services in Charlottesville.
