Orange organization explores African American’s role in community
The Eclipse awardees, honored by the Orange County African American Historical Society (OCAAHS) for their exemplary leadership, success and positive contributions to the community, include Phil Audibert, Valencia Bailey, Ayana Braxton-Thurston, Crystal Snead Crockett, Markiana Smith, and Bernice Washington.
Within its mission statement, the OCAAHS organization states its purpose is “to explore African American contributions to the cultural and historic heritage of Orange County, Virginia.”
Since its founding in 2000, this year’s banquet at Orange County High School was the largest to date, with many people unable to get tickets to the sold-out event…
