Augusta County Zoning Board denies proposal for RaceTrac travel center

VERONA, Va. (WHSV) – On Thursday afternoon, residents of Riverheads and the surrounding area packed inside the Augusta County Government Center in Verona for a public hearing on the approval of a special use permit for a new travel plaza and truck stop.

The proposal, brought forth by the Atlanta-based company, RaceTrac, would feature 12 acres of the 32-acre tract on the corner of State Routes 11 and 340, including 20 car pumps, six separate truck fueling lanes, 12 truck and 32 passenger vehicle parking spaces, and an 8,100-square-foot convenience store.
