What is Fluco? Is it a flying shoe? A superhero? Or just a letter? FCHS has made many attempts to get a mascot over the years, with its current, unique mascot being a blue and yellow winged “F”. Yet while many people have loved this mascot over the years, I think it’s time for a change.
Many of the attempts to get a mascot have been based on our name “the Flucos.” But where did this name come from? Reliable information on this name is lacking, but Wikipedia has described the origin story for the name as taking place in 1948 when a football announcer combined the words “Fluvanna” and “County” and yelled “Look at the Fluco go!” during an FCHS game against Manchester. Another version of the story has the announcer calling the FCHS team the “Flying Flucos,” a name which was quickly embraced by locals…
