CATEC continues annual holiday support for families

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – As winter break approaches, the Charlottesville Area Technical Education Center, or CATEC, is again teaming with the Emergency Food Network to make sure students do not head into the holidays without essentials, school officials said.

For the fifth consecutive year, CATEC staff will distribute bags of nonperishable food and personal care items such as soap and shampoo to families in need. The program is expected to reach about 35 families and aims to ease the financial strain that often accompanies the two-week school break.

“Each year during winter break we know that our students will be out of school for those two weeks and we want to make sure they have the resources they need,” said Adriane Butler, a counselor at CATEC. “Knowing that our families are depending on us to help provide support when we are able. So, this is just one way to let them know that we care, we want the best for them, and we support each other.”…
