He stated that these visits are not part of a new program or related to any safety threat. The officer visited the schools to introduce himself to school leaders and attended a school assembly at the request of one school. These activities took place during the officer’s day off.
Reeves explained that such visits follow the Albemarle County Police Department’s geo-policing model, which began in 2012. The goal is to build trust and familiarity between officers and the community, not to enforce laws or investigate incidents.
