Secretary Kristi Noem said Jaan Shah Safi, an Afghan national, was taken into custody by ICE Homeland Security Investigations agents on Tuesday, Dec. 3, in Waynesboro.
DHS said Safi entered the country on Sept. 8, 2021, in Philadelphia under “Operation Allies Welcome.” He applied for Temporary Protected Status, but DHS said his application was terminated after Secretary Noem ended TPS for Afghans.
According to DHS, Safi “provided support to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria-Khorasan (ISIS-K)” and “provided weapons to his father who is a commander of a militia group in Afghanistan.”…
