CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – The salt used to treat roads and sidewalks before winter storms may be helpful to humans, but the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA said, the chemicals in that ice melt can be harmful to pets.
The organization recommends dog owners rinse off their pets’ paws after returning from winter walks. Pet owners should also consider shorter walks during icy conditions.
“If you’re normally going on a 30-minute walk, maybe break that up into several walks throughout the day so that way the pet can get out, also, they’re not being exposed for prolonged periods of time,” said Libby Jones, executive director of CASPCA…
