Anonymous donor purchases $140,000 worth of grocery cards for families in need

The rising cost of purchasing groceries has stretched the wallets of many families across the United States.

To help households with students in Charlottesville City Schools, an anonymous donor has contributed $140,000 to buy at least 1,400 gift cards to Kroger and Food Lion. There’s a form people can fill out to see if they are eligible.

“This donation came as a very happy surprise,” said Dr. Denise Johnson, the division’s Director of Strategic Initiatives. “We are truly grateful to this anonymous community donor for giving students and families another layer of support.”…
